أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الصَّغَانِيُّ، ثنا عَفَّانُ، حَدَّثَنِي حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، وَثَابِتٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ أَبَا طَلْحَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَرَأَ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ: {انْفِرُوا خِفَافًا وَثِقَالًا} [التوبة: ٤١]، قَالَ: أَرَى رَبَّنَا يَسْتَنْفِرُنَا شُيُوخًا وَشَبَابًا جَهِّزُونِي، أَيْ بَنِيَّ جَهِّزُونِي. فَقَالَ بَنُوهُ: قَدْ شَهِدْتَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا فَنَحْنُ نَغْزُو. فَقَالَ: جَهِّزُونِي. فَرَكِبَ الْبَحْرَ، فَمَاتَ فَلَمْ يَجِدُوا لَهُ جَزِيرَةً إِلَّا بَعْدَ سَبْعَةِ أَيَّامٍ فَقُبِرَ بِهَا وَلَمْ يَتَغَيَّرْ.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) recited this verse: "Go forth, light or heavy" [Surah al-Tawbah: 41], and said: I see that our Lord has called upon both the old and the young to go forth in it. Then he said to his sons: O my sons, prepare me, prepare me. His sons said: You have indeed taken part in campaigns with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Abu Bakr and Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both); (now stay back) and we will fight. He said: Prepare me. Then he travelled by sea and died. (Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) They found an island only after seven days, so they buried him there, and his body remained completely unchanged.
