(a) Sulayman bin Buraydah reports from his father (Buraydah, may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him about the times of the prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Attend the prayer with us." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave the adhan in the darkness before dawn, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Subh (dawn) prayer. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order for Zuhr when the sun had declined from the middle of the sky, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order for Asr while the sun was high, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order for Maghrib when the sun had set, then he gave the order for Isha when the redness had disappeared. Then on the next day he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed Subh when it was bright; then he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave the order for Zuhr and delayed it until it was cooler; then he gave the order for Asr while the sun was white and clear, with no yellowness mixed in it; then he gave the order for Maghrib before the redness disappeared; then he gave the order for Isha when a third of the night had passed, or part of the night. Abu Rawh was in doubt. When morning came, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is the questioner? The time of the prayer is between what you have seen."
(b) It is narrated from Alqamah bin Marthad that he (peace and blessings be upon him) had the iqamah called for Isha when a third of the night had passed.
