Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said that in the time of the Messenger of Allah there was a man named Abdullah whose nickname was Himar. He used to make him (peace and blessings be upon him) laugh, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) had also flogged him for drinking. Once he was brought in a state of intoxication, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) had him flogged. A man said: "May Allah's curse be upon him; how often he does this!" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not curse him; you do not know that he loves Allah and His Messenger."
