Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a cup of a drink was brought to him (peace and blessings be upon him). When he (peace and blessings be upon him) brought it near to himself, he sensed an unpleasant smell from it, and some people asked: Is it forbidden? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Give it to me." Then he took it, mixed water into it and said: "When you see your drink become strong like this, break its strength with water."
This hadith is known only through this Abd al-Malik bin Nafi', and he is an unknown (majhul) man; they differed over his name and his father's name: it is said thus, and it is said Abd al-Malik bin al-Qa'qa', and it is said Ibn Abi al-Qa'qa', and it is said Malik bin al-Qa'qa'.
