Abu al-Qamus Zayd bin Ali narrates from one of the delegation of Abd al-Qays who came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: unless it was Qays bin al-Nu'man, for I have forgotten his name, that a man among us said: O Messenger of Allah, our land is an unhealthy land, and nothing suits it except drink; so which vessels are lawful for us and which are unlawful? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not drink from gourd vessels, hollowed-wood vessels or tar-coated vessels, and drink from leather vessels," or he said: "from a waterskin tied at the mouth. If it becomes strong, break its strength with water, and if it is beyond you, pour it out."
The Shaykh (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The established narrations of the story of the delegation of Abd al-Qays do not contain this wording, and in this chain there is one whose condition is unknown; and Allah knows best. It has also been narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) concerning this story that he said: "If he fears its strength, let him pour water on it."
