Bayhaqi 17045 — When witnesses to zina do not agree on one act, there

Abu Idris (may Allah have mercy on him) says, concerning the story of Sawsan, that Daniel (peace be upon him) was the first to separate the witnesses in testimony. He said to one of them: What did you see? He said: I saw Sawsan committing adultery with another man in the garden. He asked: In what place? He said: Under a pear tree. Then he called the second man and asked him as well, and he also gave the same testimony. Then he asked him: In what place? He said: Under an apple tree. So Daniel (peace be upon him) invoked against the two of them, and fire came from the sky and burned them both, and Sawsan was cleared.
