Safwan bin Sulaym (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that there are some people here among the Arabs who are taken by men in marriage as women are taken; tell me, what should I do? Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) gathered the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), and on that day the harshest word was spoken by Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: This is a sin that only one nation committed, and you also know what Allah did to them. Our view is that they should be burned with fire. All the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) agreed upon this, and then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him): Burn them.
