Bayhaqi 16747 — When rebels retreat, those who flee are not pursued

Ja'far bin Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from his father (may Allah have mercy on him) that on the day of Basrah Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had it announced that no one fleeing was to be pursued, no wounded man or captive was to be killed, whoever shut his door was safe, and whoever laid down his weapons was safe as well; and he took nothing from their belongings.
