Bayhaqi 16585 — Reports on the ruler indicating whom he considers fit

Muhammad bin Qays (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was ill for 13 days. On the days he felt well, he led the prayer himself, and on the days he was more unwell, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) led the prayer.
