Bayhaqi 16527 — Divination by birds (iyafah), evil omens (tiyarah)
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أَنْبَأَ إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّمَادِيُّ، ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُ مِنْ تَفْسِيرِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ يَقُولُ: شُؤْمُ الْمَرْأَةِ إِذَا كَانَتْ غَيْرَ وَلُودٍ، وَشُؤْمُ الْفَرَسِ إِذَا لَمْ يُغْزَ عَلَيْهِ، وشُؤْمُ الدَّارِ جَارُ السُّوءِ.
Ma'mar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I heard in the explanation of this hadith that the ill omen of a woman is her being barren, the ill omen of a horse is its not being used in jihad, and the ill omen of a house is a bad neighbour.
