Sufyan bin Abd al-Malik says: I asked Abdullah bin al-Mubarak (may Allah have mercy on him) about the hadith of Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her): "They and their wealth are yours when you are in need of it." He said: Sufyan narrated this hadith to me through the chain of Hammad, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sufyan said: This is an error (wahm) on the part of Hammad. Abdullah said: I asked the companions of Sufyan about this hadith, and they had not memorised it. Abdullah said: This is from his hadith from Umarah bin Umayr; al-Aswad is not in it, and these words, "when you are in need," are not in it either.
Imam al-Bayhaqi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: It has been narrated from al-A'mash, from Ibrahim, from al-Aswad, from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) without this wording; with this chain it is not preserved (ghayr mahfuz).
