وَبِالْإِسْنَادِ نا مَالِكٌ أَنَّهُ بَلَغَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ دَخَلَ عَلَى أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهَا وَهِيَ حَادٌّ عَلَى أَبِي سَلَمَةَ وَقَدْ جَعَلَتْ عَلَى عَيْنَيْهَا صَبْرًا فَقَالَ: " مَا هَذَا يَا أُمَّ سَلَمَةَ؟ " فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا هُوَ صَبْرٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " اجْعَلِيهِ بِاللَّيْلِ وَامْسَحِيهِ بِالنَّهَارِ " وَهَذَانِ مُنْقَطِعَانِ وَقَدْ رُوِيَا بِإِسْنَادٍ مَوْصُولٍ.
Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came in to Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was mourning Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him), and she had applied (sabir, aloe) to her eyes. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umm Salamah, what is this?" She said: O Messenger of Allah, it is only sabir. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Apply it at night and wipe it off during the day."
These two (reports) are munqati' (with a broken chain), and they have been narrated with a connected chain.
