Amrah (may Allah have mercy on her) narrates from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that Habibah bint Sahl (may Allah be pleased with her) married Thabit bin Qays bin Shammas (may Allah be pleased with him), and he gave her two gardens as dowry (mahr). There was a disagreement between them, because of which Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) beat Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) and broke her hand. She came to the door of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) at the time of Fajr. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came out of the house, she said: This is the stand of one seeking refuge from Thabit bin Qays. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Who are you?" She said: Habibah bint Sahl. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "May your hands be covered in dust, what is the matter?" She said: He beat me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Thabit bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him), and Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned what was between them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What did you give her?" Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Two plots of date palms, or he said two gardens. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take some of the wealth and leave some." He said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), is that proper? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." So he took one of the two gardens and separated from her. After that Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) married her and took her to Syria, and she died there.
