Sayyiduna Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent him with the army of Dhat al-Salasil. He said: I came back and said: O Messenger of Allah! Who among the people is most beloved to you (peace and blessings be upon him)? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Aishah." I asked: From among men? He said: "Her father." I said: Then who? He said: "Umar." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) counted several men. Others narrated it as "then Umar", that is, they related the words 'thumma Umar' (then Umar).
(b) In the hadith of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), when he said to his daughter Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her): "Do not be deceived by the fact that your neighbour is more beautiful and more beloved to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) than you," he meant Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her).
