باب: ما جاء في قول الله عز وجل: ولن تستطيعوا أن تعدلوا بين النساء ولو حرصتم فلا تميلوا كل الميل فتذروها كالمعلقة
Chapter: Reports on the saying of Allah the Mighty and Majestic: "And you will never be able to be perfectly just between wives, even if you strive to, so do not incline completely and leave her as if suspended"

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو نَصْرِ بْنُ قَتَادَةَ، أنا أَبُو مَنْصُورٍ النَّضْرَوِيّ، أنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ، نا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، نا فُضَيْلُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَبِيدَةَ عَنْ قَوْلِهِ: {وَلَنْ تَسْتَطِيعُوا أَنْ تَعْدِلُوا بَيْنَ النِّسَاءِ وَلَوْ حَرَصْتُمْ} [النساء: ١٢٩]، قَالَ: " فَأَوْمَأَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى صَدْرِهِ وَقَالَ: فِي الْحُبِّ وَالْمُجَامَعَةِ ".
Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I asked Abidah (may Allah have mercy on him) about this saying, "And you will never be able to be just between wives, even if you strive (to do so)" [Surah al-Nisa: 129]. He said: He pointed with his hand to his chest and said: (It is) in love and sexual intercourse.
