It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to the prayer ground on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr. Then, when he had finished the prayer, he admonished the people and ordered them to give charity. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O people, give charity." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went back towards the women and said: "O assembly of women, give charity, for I have seen the majority of you in the Fire." They said: O Messenger of Allah, why? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You curse frequently and you are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone deficient in intellect and religion who takes away the mind of a resolute man more than you, O assembly of women." They said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): What is the deficiency of our intellect and our religion? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Is not the testimony of a woman half the testimony of a man?" They said: Indeed it is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is the deficiency of your intellect. And is it not so that when a woman menstruates, she neither prays nor fasts?" They said: Indeed it is. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is the deficiency of your religion."
