Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) passed by Banu Zurayq, and they heard the sound of singing and play. He (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What is this?" They said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! This is the marriage of so-and-so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marriage is what completes one's religion, not fornication; and marriage is not to be kept secret, until the sound of the duff is heard or smoke is seen."
(b) Amr bin Yahya al-Mazini (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) disliked secret marriage, until the duff was beaten for it.
Husayn bin Abdullah is da'if (weak).
