وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، نا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، نا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أنا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ كَانَ إِذَا سَمِعَ صَوْتًا، أَوْ دُفًّا قَالَ: مَا هَذَا؟ فَإِنْ قَالُوا: عُرْسٌ أَوْ خِتَانٌ صَمَتَ.
Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) says that whenever Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) heard a sound or the beating of a duff, he would ask: What is this? If they said it was a wedding or a circumcision gathering, he would remain silent.
