قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: وَحَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ، أَنَّ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْمُسَيِّبِ " دُعِيَ أَوَّلَ يَوْمٍ فَأَجَابَ، وَالثَّانِيَ فَأَجَابَ، وَدُعِيَ الْيَوْمَ الثَّالِثَ فَلَمْ يُجِبْ وَقَالَ: " أَهْلُ سُمْعَةٍ وَرِئَاءٍ ".
When Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) was invited to a wedding feast (walimah) on the first or second day, he would accept, but on the third day he would not accept, and he would say: This is for reputation and showing off.
