أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الرُّوذْبَارِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ دَاسَةَ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، ثنا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، ثنا هَمَّامٌ، ثنا قَتَادَةُ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ، عَنْ رَجُلٍ أَعْوَرَ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ كَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَعْرُوفًا أَيْ يُثْنَى عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا إِنْ لَمْ يَكُنِ اسْمُهُ زُهَيْرَ بْنَ عُثْمَانَ فَلَا أَدْرِي مَا اسْمُهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الْوَلِيمَةُ أَوَّلَ يَوْمٍ حَقٌّ، وَالثَّانِيَ مَعْرُوفٌ، وَالْيَوْمَ الثَّالِثَ سُمْعَةٌ وَرِئَاءٌ ".
Abdullah bin Uthman al-Thaqafi (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a one-eyed man of Thaqif who was always spoken of with praise; if his name is not Zuhayr bin Uthman, then I do not know his name, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The wedding feast (walimah) on the first day is a right, on the second day it is a kindness, and on the third day it is for reputation and showing off."
