Ibn Sirin (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Al-Ash'ath bin Qays (may Allah be pleased with him) married a woman he had fallen in love with, on her own decision, and the woman claimed two of his slaves as her due. Al-Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: I fell in love with a woman. He said: That is among the things you have no control over. Al-Ash'ath (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I gave her the right to decide. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Her decision counts for nothing; she has only the dowry customary among the women of her family.
