أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ، ثنا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ قَالَ: قُرِئَ عَلَى ابْنِ ⦗٢٧٩⦘ وَهْبٍ، أَخْبَرَكَ حُيِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْمَعَافِرِيُّ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْحُبُلِيَّ، يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو " أَنَّ آخِرَ سُورَةٍ نَزَلَتْ سُورَةُ الْمَائِدَةِ "، قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ فَأَيُّهُمَا كَانَ، فَقَدْ أُبِيحَ مِنْهُ نِكَاحُ حَرَائِرِ أَهْلِ الْكِتَابِ قَالَ: وَأَحَبُّ إِلِيَّ لَوْ لَمْ يَنْكِحْهُنَّ مُسْلِمٌ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the last surah to be revealed was Surah al-Ma'idah.
Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Marriage with the free women of the People of the Book has been permitted, and I would prefer that Muslims did not marry them.
