أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ عَلِيُّ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ثنا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ التَّرَّسِيُّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " زَوَّجْتُ الْمِقْدَادَ وَزَيْدًا لِيَكُونَ أَشْرَفُكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ أَحْسَنَكُمْ خُلُقًا "، هَذَا مُنْقَطِعٌ وَفِيمَا قَبْلَهُ كِفَايَةٌ وَالْمِقْدَادُ هُوَ ابْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، حَلِيفُ الْأَسْوَدِ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي زُهْرَةَ، فَنُسِبَ إِلَيْهِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْ صُلْبِهِمْ، وَقَدْ زُوِّجَتْ مِنْهُ ضُبَاعَةُ بِنْتُ الزُّبَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ هَاشِمٍ.
Imam al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I arranged the marriages of al-Miqdad and Zayd so that whoever among you is best in character would be the highest in rank with Allah."
This report is munqati' (has a broken chain), and the report before it is sufficient.
(b) Sayyiduna al-Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) is the son of Amr bin Tha'labah bin Malik; he was an ally of al-Aswad, a man from Banu Zuhrah, and so he was attributed to him, though he was not of their lineage; and Sayyidah Duba'ah bint al-Zubayr bin Abd al-Muttalib bin Hashim (may Allah be pleased with her) was married to him.
