وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، أَنْبَأَ أَبُو الْحَسَنِ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ الْحَافِظُ قَالَ: الصَّحِيحُ مُرْسَلٌ، وَقَوْلُ شُعَيْبٍ وَهْمٌ، وَذَكَرَهُ الْأَثْرَمُ، لِأَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ فَأَنْكَرَهُ، وَقَدْ رُوِيَ مِنْ وَجْهٍ آخَرَ ضَعِيفٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ وَلَيْسَ بِمَشْهُورٍ، وَإِنْ صَحَّ ذَلِكَ، فَكَأَنَّهُ كَانَ وَضَعَهَا فِي غَيْرِ كُفْوٍ فَخَيَّرَهَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَفِي مِثْلِ ذَلِكَ.

Al-Daraqutni said: The correct version is mursal, and Shu'ayb's version is a mistake. Al-Athram mentioned it to Ahmad bin Hanbal, and he rejected it. It has also been narrated through another weak route from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, and it is not well known. If that is authentic, then it is as though he had married her to someone who was not a suitable match, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave her the choice in such a case.
