It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when Sayyiduna Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) died, he left a daughter from Khuwaylah bint Hakim bin Umayyah bin Harithah bin al-Awqas, and he made a bequest to his brother Qudamah bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him). Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Both of them are my maternal uncles. He said: I sent a marriage proposal to Qudamah bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) for the daughter of Uthman bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him), and he married her to me. Then Sayyiduna al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the girl's mother and enticed her with wealth, so she inclined towards him, and the girl inclined towards her mother's wish. So the two of them (the girl and her mother) refused (me), until the matter reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The narrator says: Qudamah bin Maz'un (may Allah be pleased with him) said: She is my brother's daughter; he entrusted her to me in his bequest, so I married her to Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and I did not fall short for her in righteousness or in suitability. But she is a woman, and she has inclined towards her mother's wish. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "She is an orphan girl; she is not to be married except with her permission." The narrator says: By Allah, she was taken away from me after I had become her husband, and they married her to al-Mughirah bin Shu'bah (may Allah be pleased with him).
