مِنْهَا مَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ السُّلَمِيُّ، أنبأ أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ الثَّرَارَنِيُّ، ثنا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ الْمُغَازِيُّ الطَّبَرِيُّ، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ، عَنْ هُشَيْمٍ، عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ، عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ، وَعَلِيًّا رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا وَشُرَيْحًا، وَمَسْرُوقًا رَحِمَهُمَا اللهُ، قَالُوا: " لَا نِكَاحَ إِلَّا بِوَلِيٍّ ".
It is narrated from al-Sha'bi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), and Shurayh and Masruq (may Allah have mercy on them both) said: There is no marriage without a guardian.
