أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، أنبأ أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ الْمَحْبُوبِيُّ بِمَرْوَ، ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، ثنا الْمُسْتَلِمُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، ثنا مَنْصُورُ بْنُ زَاذَانَ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ قُرَّةَ، عَنْ مَعْقِلِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ قَالَ: جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنِّي أَصَبْتُ امْرَأَةً ذَاتَ حَسَبٍ وَمَنْصِبٍ وَمَالٍ، إِلَّا أَنَّهَا لَا تَلِدُ أَفَأَتَزَوَّجُ بِهَا؟ فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّانِيَةَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَنَهَاهُ، ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الثَّالِثَةَ، فَقَالَ لَهُ مِثْلَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صلَّى الله عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " تَزَوَّجُوا الْوَلُودَ الْوَدُودَ، فَإِنِّي مُكَاثِرٌ بِكُمُ الْأُمَمَ ".
Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) says that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! I have found a woman of lineage and wealth, but she does not bear children. Should I marry her?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him. Then he came a second time, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him the same answer, that is, he forbade him. Then he came a third time and asked him (peace and blessings be upon him) the same question, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Marry a woman who is very loving and bears many children, for I will take pride in your great numbers before the nations."
