Bayhaqi 13339 — What was required of him ﷺ of witnessing the Truth

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ فُورَكٍ، أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا شَرِيكٌ، وَقَيْسٌ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِجَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ: أَكُنْتَ تُجَالِسُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قَالَ: " كَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ قَلِيلَ الضَّحِكِ، وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ رُبَّمَا تَنَاشَدُوا عِنْدَهُ الشِّعْرَ وَالشَّيْءَ مِنْ أُمُورِهِمْ، فَيَضْحَكُونَ وَرُبَّمَا تَبَسَّمَ ".
Simak bin Harb asked Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him): Have you sat with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? He said: Yes. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would remain silent for long periods and laughed little. Sometimes the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) would recite poetry or mention some other matter, and they would laugh, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) would only smile.
