Imam al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) says that among the categories of charity there is a share for reconciling hearts, which everyone has preserved from the previous hadith: that Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) came to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), I think he said, with three hundred camels of charity that his people had given, and Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him thirty camels and ordered him to take them to Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him), since his people had newly accepted Islam; so he came to him with a band of a thousand men. The hadith does not make clear from where he gave them, so it seems these are only inferences drawn from the narrations. 'Wallahu a'lam' (Allah knows best). He gave from the specific share of 'al-mu'allafah qulubuhum' (those whose hearts are to be reconciled), and gave them more so that their inclination to it would increase. Besides them he gave to another people to reconcile their hearts, because that people were not firm Muslims like the people of Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him).
