Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says that Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a piece of gold from Yemen to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided it among four men: al-Aqra' bin Habis al-Hanzali, Uyaynah bin Hisn al-Fazari, Alqamah bin Ulathah al-Amiri and Zayd al-Khayl al-Ta'i. The chiefs of Quraysh became angry and said: "You give to the people of Najd but deprive us!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I did this only to win their hearts." Then a man came who had a thick beard, swollen cheeks, sunken eyes, a protruding forehead and a shaven head. He said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Fear Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If I disobey Allah, then who obeys Him? He has made me trustworthy over the earth, and you do not consider me trustworthy." Then that man went away. A man among the people asked permission to kill him (and perhaps that man was Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him)), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, from the offspring of this man will come people who will recite the Qur'an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will kill the people of Islam and leave the idol-worshippers alone, and they will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes out of the bow. If I were to find them, I would certainly kill them as the people of Ad were killed."
