Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when Allah Almighty granted the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) the fay' that was gained from the wealth of the tribe of Hawazin on the day of Hunayn, he (peace and blessings be upon him) began giving men of his own people a hundred camels each. A man from the Ansar said: "May Allah forgive His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)! He (peace and blessings be upon him) gives to Quraysh and leaves us out, that is, deprives us, while our swords are still dripping with their blood." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says that this reached the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for the Ansar and gathered them in a tent of leather, and did not leave anyone else with them. When they had gathered, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked about the talk that had reached him (peace and blessings be upon him) from them. The men of understanding among the Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Those of us who are men of sound judgement did not say this. It was said by those who are young in age; they said: May Allah Almighty forgive His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)! He (peace and blessings be upon him) gives to Quraysh and has deprived us, while blood is still dripping from our swords." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I give to people who have recently left disbelief, in order to win their hearts. Are you not pleased that the people go home with wealth while you go back to your homes with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)?" He said: "By Allah! What you take back is better than what they take back." Then they said: "Certainly, O Prophet of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)!" Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After me you will meet with severe preference (of others over you), so be patient until you meet Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), for I will be at the Pond (Hawd)."
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But we did not remain patient.
