It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is given wealth by Allah Almighty and does not pay its zakah, on the Day of Resurrection it will be given the form of a bald (aqra') serpent with two black spots over its eyes; on the Day of Resurrection it will coil around him and seize him by his jaws, saying: I am your wealth, I am your treasure." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: "And let not those who are miserly with what Allah has given them of His bounty think that it is good for them" [Surah Al Imran: 180].
