Malik bin Mighwal narrates from a man that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) was asked: Who was the first to believe? He said: Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Have you not heard the words of Hassan:
When you recall grief from a trustworthy brother, then remember your brother Abu Bakr for the deeds he accomplished.
The best of creation after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the most faithful and just, and the most worthy of the burden that he bore; he was the companion of the cave, that is, he was present at a place that has been praised, and he was the first of the people to affirm the messengers, praising the command of Allah, and he lived his life acting upon the conduct and sayings of the departed friend.
The Shaykh said: It appears that the precedence among Banu Taym refers to Abu Bakr al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), and among them was also Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him), who was also a Taymi; his lineage is Talhah bin Ubaydullah bin Uthman bin Amr bin Ka'b bin Sa'd bin Taym bin Murrah.
