وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنبأ أَبُو حَامِدِ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُدْعَانَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ قَالَ: جَاءَ سَعْدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: مَنْ أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ: " سَعْدُ بْنُ مَالِكِ بْنِ وُهَيْبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ مَنَافِ بْنِ زُهْرَةَ، مَنْ قَالَ غَيْرَ هَذَا فَعَلَيْهِ لَعْنَةُ اللهِ " وَأَمَّا تَيْمٌ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ أَخًا لِكِلَابٍ، وَأَمَّا مَخْزُومٌ فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ أَخًا لَهُمْ، وَإِنَّمَا هُوَ مَخْزُومُ بْنُ يَقَظَةَ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، إِلَّا أَنَّ الْقَبِيلَةَ اشْتُهِرَتْ بِمَخْزُومٍ فَنُسِبَتْ إِلَيْهِ، وَإِنَّمَا قَدَّمَ بَنِي تَيْمٍ عَلَى بَنِي مَخْزُومٍ؛ لِأَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا مِنْ حِلْفِ الْفُضُولِ وَالْمُطَيَّبِينَ..
It is narrated from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib that Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Who am I?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sa'd bin Malik bin Wuhayb bin Abd Manaf bin Zuhrah; whoever says otherwise, upon him be the curse of Allah." As for Taym, he was the brother of Kilab; and Makhzum was not a brother to them, for he is Makhzum bin Yaqazah bin Murrah, but the tribe became well known by Makhzum and so was attributed to him. Banu Taym were put before Banu Makhzum because they were among the Hilf al-Fudul and the Mutayyabin.
