أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ، أنا أَبُو حَامِدِ بْنُ بِلَالٍ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ الْمَكِّيُّ، ثنا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، فَذَكَرَهُ بِنَحْوِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ قَالَ: " فِي هَؤُلَاءِ لَأَطْلَقْتُهُمْ لَهُ " يَعْنِي أُسَارَى بَدْرٍ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ: وَكَانَتْ لَهُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَدٌ، وَكَانَ أَجْزَى النَّاسِ بِالْيَدِ.
In this narration the words are: "Had he spoken about them, I would have released them," meaning the captives of Badr. Sufyan (may Allah have mercy on him) said: He had done the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a favour, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most generous of people in repaying a favour.
