Abu al-Ghawth bin al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! The obligation of Allah regarding Hajj has come upon my father, and he is an old man who cannot keep himself on a mount. What do you say about performing Hajj on his behalf?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, Hajj will be performed on his behalf." He said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Whoever of our family has died without having made a bequest for Hajj, will Hajj be performed on his behalf as well?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, and you will be rewarded too." He said: "Can charity be given and fasts be kept on his behalf?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes, and charity is better; and likewise in a vow and in walking to the mosque."
This is mursal (with a gap in the chain) between Ata al-Khurasani and those above him, and its meaning is found in the established hadith before it.
