Bayhaqi 12069 — What one may and may not pick up of what he finds

Mundhir bin Jarir (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I was with my father at al-Bawazij in the Sawad (of Iraq), and the cattle came back (in the evening). He saw a cow he did not recognise and said: Whose cow is this? They replied: This cow has joined our cattle. So he ordered that it be driven out, and it was driven away until it disappeared from sight. Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "None gives shelter to a stray except one who is astray."
