It is reported from Sayyidah Zaynab (may Allah be pleased with her) that she was removing lice from the head of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and with him were the wife of Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) and other women of the Muhajirun. They complained about their houses, that they were cramped for them and that they were being made to leave them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that "the women be made heirs of the houses of the Muhajirun." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) died, and his wife inherited a house in Madinah from him.
