It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) hired a man from Banu al-Dil, and then of Banu Abbad, as an expert guide; 'al-khirrit' means one skilled in guiding. He had dipped his hand in a pact of alliance with the family of al-As bin Wa'il, and he was on the religion of the disbelievers of Quraysh, yet the two of them trusted him. They handed him their two mounts and arranged with him to meet at the cave of Thawr after three nights. So he came to them with their mounts on the morning after the third night, and the two of them set off, and Amir bin Fuhayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and the guide from al-Dil went with them. This guide took the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) along the coast.
