أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ، ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ، ثنا إِسْرَائِيلُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: " لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {وَلَا تَقْرَبُوا مَالَ الْيَتِيمِ إِلَّا بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ} [الأنعام: ١٥٢] عَزَلُوا أَمْوَالَهُمْ عَنْ أَمْوَالِ الْيَتَامَى، فَجَعَلَ الطَّعَامُ يَفْسُدُ، وَاللَّحْمُ يَنْتُنُ، فَشَكَوْا ذَلِكَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللهُ تَعَالَى {قُلْ إِصْلَاحٌ لَهُمْ خَيْرٌ وَإِنْ تُخَالِطُوهُمْ فَإِخْوَانُكُمْ} [البقرة: ٢٢٠]، قَالَ: فَخَالَطُوهُمْ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When the verse "And do not approach the wealth of the orphan except in the way that is best" [Surah al-An'am: 152] was revealed, the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) separated their wealth from the wealth of the orphans. As a result, food began to spoil and meat began to go bad. They informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) of this, and Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Say: Improving their condition is best, and if you mix your affairs with theirs, they are your brothers" [Surah al-Baqarah: 220]. He said: Then the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) mixed the orphans in with themselves.
