أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا عَلِيٍّ الْحُسَيْنَ بْنَ عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا حَامِدٍ أَحْمَدَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ، يَقُولُ: سَأَلْتُ مُسْلِمَ بْنَ الْحَجَّاجِ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ عَنِ اخْتِلَافِ سَالِمٍ، وَنَافِعٍ فِي قِصَّةِ الْعَبْدِ، قَالَ: الْقَوْلُ مَا قَالَ نَافِعٌ وَإِنْ كَانَ سَالِمٌ أَحْفَظَ مِنْهُ.
Muslim bin al-Hajjaj (may Allah have mercy on him), mentioning the disagreement between Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) and Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him) in the story of the slave, said: The correct view is that of Nafi' (may Allah have mercy on him), even though Salim (may Allah have mercy on him) had a stronger memory than him.
