Ali (bin Abdullah) said: I said to Sufyan: Abu al-Rabi' narrated from Amr bin Dinar, from Sa'id bin al-Musayyib, from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), concerning a man who stays far away (from water) with his camels. Sufyan said: Only al-Muthanna bin al-Sabbah brought this, from Amr bin Shu'ayb; Amr bin Dinar only said: I heard Jabir bin Zayd saying it. Ali said: I said to Sufyan: Shu'bah narrated it in this way from Jabir (bin Zayd). He said: Shu'bah was among the people of memorisation and truthfulness, and he was not one who sought falsehood. (c) The Shaykh said: It has also been narrated from Ibn Abi Arubah, from Amr bin Dinar, from Ibn al-Musayyib, from Abu Hurayrah, whereas Ibn Abi Arubah only heard it from Abu al-Rabi', from Amr; and it has been narrated through another weak route.
