أَخْبَرَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: وَسَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى يَقُولُ: "سَعَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ، وَنَحْنُ نَسْتُرُهُ مِنْ أَهْلِ مَكَّةَ أَنْ يُصِيبَهُ أَحَدٌ بِحَجَرٍ أَوْ بِرَمْيَةٍ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa رضي الله عنه narrates: The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم performed Sa’i between Safa and Marwah, and we, the people of Makkah, were protecting him صلى الله عليه وسلم, lest any stone or arrow might hit him صلى الله عليه وسلم.

From this hadith, the devotion and love of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) for the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is evident. Furthermore, it is established that it is permissible to appoint guards for leaders and rulers.
