«أربع من عمل الأحياء تجري للأموات: رجل ترك عقبا صالحا يدعو له ينفعه دعاؤهم ورجل تصدق بصدقة جارية من بعده له أجرها ما جرت بعده ورجل علم علما فعمل به من بعده له مثل أجر من عمل به من غير أن ينقص من أجر من يعمل به شيء»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Among the deeds of the living, four (are such that their reward) continues for the dead: a man who left behind righteous children who supplicate for him, so their supplication benefits him; a man who gave an ongoing charity to continue after him, so he will receive its reward for as long as it continues; and a man who taught knowledge which was then acted upon after him, so he will receive a reward equal to that of the one who acts upon it, without anything being reduced from the reward of the one who acts upon it."
