«الوتر حق على كل مسلم فمن شاء أوتر بسبع ومن شاء أوتر بخمس ومن شاء بثلاث ومن شاء أوتر بواحدة فمن غلب فليومئ إيماء»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Witr is a duty upon every Muslim: whoever wishes may pray seven rak'ahs of witr, whoever wishes five, whoever wishes three, and whoever wishes may pray one rak'ah of witr; and whoever is overcome (unable) should pray it by gestures."
