«ما تقولون في الشهيد فيكم؟ قالوا: القتل في سبيل الله قال: إن شهداء أمتي إذن لقليل من قتل في سبيل الله فهو شهيد ومن مات في سبيل الله فهو شهيد والمبطون شهيد والمطعون شهيد والغرق شهيد»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Whom do you consider a martyr among you?" The Companions said: "Being killed in the path of Allah." He said: "In that case the martyrs of my Ummah would be very few. Whoever is killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, whoever dies in the path of Allah is also a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach disease is a martyr, the one who dies of the plague is a martyr, and the one who dies by drowning is a martyr."
