«لقد لقيت من قومك وكان أشد ما لقيت منهم يوم العقبة إذ عرضت نفسي على ابن عبد ياليل بن عبد كلال فلم يجبني إلى ما أردت فانطلقت وأنا مهموم على وجهي فلم أستفق إلا وأنا بقرن الثعالب فرفعت رأسي فإذا أنا بسحابة قد أظلتني فنظرت فإذا فيها جبريل فناداني فقال: إن الله قد سمع كلام قومك لك وما ردوا عليك وقد بعث إليك ملك الجبال لتأمره بما شئت فيهم فناداني ملك الجبال فسلم علي ثم قال يا محمد! فقال ذلك فما شئت إن شئت أطبق عليهم الأخشبين قلت: بل أرجوأن يخرج الله من أصلابهم من يعبد الله وحده لا يشرك به شيئا»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I have suffered much from your people, and the hardest of what I suffered from them was on the Day of Aqabah, when I presented myself to Ibn Abd Yalil bin Abd Kulal, and he did not respond to what I wanted. So I went away in a state of grief, and I did not come to myself until I had reached Qarn al-Tha'alib. I raised my head and saw a cloud shading me. I looked, and in it was Jibril. He called out to me and said: 'Allah Almighty has heard what your people said to you and how they answered you, and He has sent to you the Angel of the Mountains so that you may command him as you wish regarding them.' Then the Angel of the Mountains called out to me, greeted me with salam, and said: 'O Muhammad! It is just so; now command whatever you wish. If you wish, I will bring the two mountains together upon them.' I said: 'No, rather I hope that Allah Almighty will bring forth from their descendants people who will worship Allah alone and not associate anything with Him.'"
