«لقد رأيتني في الحجر وقريش تسألني عن مسراي فسألتني عن أشياء من بيت المقدس لم أثبتها فكربت كربا ما كربت مثله قط فرفعه الله لي أنظر إليه ما يسألوني عن شيء إلا أنبأتهم به وقد رأيتني في جماعة من الأنبياء فإذا موسى قائم يصلي فإذا رجل جعد ضرب كأنه من رجال شنوءة وإذا عيسى ابن مريم قائم يصلي أقرب الناس به شبها عروة ابن مسعود الثقفي وإذا إبراهيم قائم يصلي أشبه الناس به صاحبكم - يعني نفسه - فحانت الصلاة فأممتهم فلما فرغت من الصلاة قال قائل: يا محمد! هذا مالك صاحب النار فسلم عليه فالتفت إليه فبدأني بالسلام»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"I saw myself in the Hijr while Quraysh were asking me about my Night Journey. They asked me about things in Bayt al-Maqdis that I had not properly retained, and I was distressed as I had never been distressed before. Then Allah Almighty raised it up for me, and I began looking at it; whatever they asked me about, I informed them of it. And I saw myself among a group of the prophets: Musa was standing in prayer; he was a man with curly hair and of light build, as though he were one of the men of Shanu'ah. Isa bin Maryam was standing in prayer; the person who most resembled him was Urwah bin Mas'ud al-Thaqafi. Ibrahim was standing in prayer; the person who most resembled him was your companion, meaning myself. Then the time for prayer came and I led them in prayer. When I had finished the prayer, someone said: 'O Muhammad! This is Malik, the keeper of the Fire, so greet him with salam.' I turned towards him, and he greeted me with salam first."
