"إذا حضر المؤمن أتته ملائكة الرحمة بحريرة بيضاء فيقولون: اخرجي راضية مرضيا عنك إلى روح وريحان ورب غير غضبان فيخرج كأطيب ريح المسك حتى إنه ليناوله بعضهم بعضا حتى يأتوا به باب السماء فيقولون: ما أطيب هذا الريح التي جاءتكم من الأرض! فيأتون به أرواح المؤمنين فلهم أشد فرحا به من أحدكم بغائبه يقدم عليه فيسألونه: ماذا فعل فلان؟ ماذا فعل فلان؟ فيقولون: دعوه فإنه كان في غم الدنيا فإذا قال: أما أتاكم؟ قالوا: ذهب به إلى أمه الهاوية، ¤ وإن الكافر إذا حضر أتته ملائكة العذاب بمسح فيقولون: اخرجي ساخطة مسخوطا عليك إلى عذاب الله فيخرج كأنتن ريح جيفة حتى يأتوا بها باب الأرض فيقولون: ما أنتن هذه الريح؟ حتى يأتوا بها أرواح الكفار"
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"When the time of death approaches the believer, the angels of mercy come to him with a white silk cloth and say: O soul, come out, pleased (with Allah) and with Allah pleased with you, to rest and fragrance and to a Lord who is not angry with you at all. So it comes out like the finest scent of musk, until the angels pass it from hand to hand among themselves, and they bring it to the gate of heaven, and the angels there say: How pure is this fragrance that has come to you from the earth! Then those angels take it to the souls of the other believers, and they rejoice at its arrival more than any of you rejoices when an absent loved one returns to him. Then they (the souls already there) ask it: What did so-and-so do? How is so-and-so? And the angels say: Leave him for now, for he was in the grief and hardships of the world. Then when the arriving soul says to them: So-and-so (who had died in the world), did he not come to you? they reply: He was taken to his abode, Hawiyah (Hell). And when the time of death approaches the disbeliever, the angels of punishment come to him with a sackcloth (a coarse cloth) and say: Come out, displeased (with Allah) and with wrath sent down upon you, to the punishment of Allah. So it comes out like the most foul stench of a carcass, until the angels bring it to the gate of the earth, and the guards say: What a foul stench this is! Until they take it to the souls of the disbelievers."
