«خمس بخمس ما نقض قوم العهد إلا سلط عليهم عدوهم وما حكموا بغير ما أنزل الله إلا فشا فيهم الفقر ولا ظهرت فيهم الفاحشة إلا فشا فيهم الموت ولا طففوا المكيال إلا منعوا النبات وأخذوا بالسنين ولا منعوا الزكاة إلا حبس عنهم القطر»
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
"Five things are tied to five things: no people broke a covenant but their enemy was given power over them; no people judged by other than what Allah revealed but poverty became widespread among them; no people among whom indecency spread but death became widespread among them; no people gave short measure and weight but produce was withheld from them and they were seized with years of famine; and no people withheld zakah but the rain was withheld from them."
